School Assessments

The Fort Cherry High School provides students numerous opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills through course-based assessments, activities, and projects throughout the school year. In addition, there are a number of standardized assessments that the school is mandated to provide to students and others that the school chooses to provide for students. Please see the information below regarding the various standardized assessments the high school provides students in grades 7-12. If you have any questions, please contact your school counselor.

ASVAB
Juniors and Seniors who opt-in for testing will take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test during the morning on December 15, 2023. This test is part of the ASVAB Career Exploration Program. The program provides tools to help students learn more about career exploration and planning, in both the civilian and military worlds of work. The ASVAB Career Exploration Program is free of charge to participating schools. Upon completion of the ASVAB, students will have the opportunity to analyze their results with guidance and support. If you prefer that your child not take the ASVAB, please download the  ASVAB Opt-out Form and return it to Ms. McGlennon no later than December 11, 2023.

NOCTI
Students who are seniors and designated as "completers" of the Fort Cherry HS Agriculture Program take the NOCTI Production Agriculture Assessment. This assessment has 2 parts - online Knowledge Exam and the in-person Performance Exam. For more information regarding the NOCTI, please click HERE.

PSSA ELA, Math, Science
Students in grades 7-8 are required to take the PSSA in ELA and Math. Students in grade 8 also take the PSSA Science. The schedule for these assessments follows:

PSSA ELA - April 22, 23, 24
PSSA Math - April 30 - May 1
PSSA Science - May 2-3

If a student is absent for an assessment, school counselors will assist students with make-ups when he/she returns to school.

SAT Exam
Juniors and seniors who plan to attend college should consider taking the SAT at least once. It is recommended that juniors take their first SAT in May or June of their junior year. Seniors should take the exam no later than November of their senior year in order to receive their scores in a timely manner to apply for college. Please keep in mind that students may take the exam at any time August - June. The Fort Cherry HS will host the SAT Administration on October 7, 2023 and May 4, 2024. Khan Academy SAT Prep is a great resource for students to prepare for the SAT. Students may also contact their senior high Math and English teachers at Fort Cherry HS for support.

Advanced Placement Exams
Students who choose to take an Advanced Placement (AP) course have the option of taking the corresponding AP Exam as an end of course assessment. Students must take the exam in order to receive weighted credit for the course. Students who earn a "C" or better on the exam may request reimbursement for the cost of the exam.   • AP Chemistry - May 6
  • AP Statistics - May 7
  • AP English Literature & Composition - May 8
  • AP Psychology - May 9
  • AP US History - May 10
  • AP Calculus/ PreCalculus - May 13
  • AP Computer Science Principles - May 15
  • AP Biology - May 16
  • AP Physics 1 - May 17

Keystone Exams
Keystone Exams are end of course exams taken in May. The Algebra 1 Keystone is taken at the end of Algebra 1 and Algebra 1B. The Biology Keystone is taken at the end of Biology and Honors Biology. The English Literature Keystone is taken at the end of English 10 and Honors English 10. The schedule for these assessments follows:

  • Literature - May 13 & 14
  • Algebra 1 - May 15 & 16
  • Biology - May 17 & 20

If a student is absent for an assessment, school counselors will assist students with make-ups when he/she returns to school.
