High school students in 9th or 10th grade currently are invited to apply to the Southwest PA Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Summer Health Career Academy.  Entering our 21st year, we offer a five-day, hands-on interactive program from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.  This year’s Academy is scheduled for July 15th - July 19th.

This program is a Registered Pre-apprenticeship and employment opportunity with Simcoach Games starting on June 10, 2024, through July 19, 2024.

Design and build electrifying inventions for a new “Smart Streetcar” using Makey Makey technology and then whip up a fresh batch of conductive playdough. Dive into computer programming with Sphero Robotics to drive through obstacle courses, then design and race robot-powered horsecars. Camp Tech is a summer camp for students entering grades 3-8 in the fall of 2024. Students will explore science, technology, engineering, math, computer science and more with new and innovative technology! Monday June 17th & Tuesday June 18th from 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM (lunch is provided) Student who have completed grades 4-8 are invited to attend Parkway West CTC summer camp. Students participating will choose two programs to experience: Automotive Technology (Learn how to change a tire; oil and filter change), Carpentry (Build a tool box using hand tools), Cosmetology (Hand Massage & Paraffin Wax Treatment; Braiding Techniques), Cyber Security & Networking Technology (Construct Raspberry Pi or Solar Robotics), Diesel Technology (Construct diesel engine model & explore semi-truck components), Electrical Systems Technology (Learn how to wire their own light to take home), Health Occupations Technology (Learn nursing basics including vital signs & lung activities), HVAC/R (Learn Basic Soldering & Build a Copper Robot), Power Motorsports Technology (Learn basics of dirt bikes, quads and side-by-sides), Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Therapy (Learn techniques used by professional sports trainers), Veterinary Assistant Technology (Learn how to care for an animal & take vital signs), Welding & Fabrication Technology (Learn how to fuse metal using arc welders & torches)
