Advanced Placement & College in High School

The Fort Cherry School District offers students many opportunities to participate in college level courses while still in high school. College credit is optional, though students do not receive a weighted grade unless the course is taken for college credit. This includes completion of the Advanced Placement (AP) Exam in the Advanced Placement courses and enrollment in the University of Pittsburgh for the College in High School (CHS) courses.

Courses for Credit
Students who elect to take a College in High School course must take the course for college credit. Parents/Guardians/Students are required to pay the fee for the college course credit. Students who earn a C (70%) or better for a final grade will be reimbursed for the cost of the college course, upon submitting a copy of the report card and a copy of the cancelled check or receipt proving payment. Students who take the College in High School courses will have a weighted letter grade assigned to them.

Students who elect to take an Advanced Placement course must take the Advanced Placement Exam. Parents/Guardians/Students are required to pay the fee for the Advanced Placement Exam. Students who earn a passing score, as determined by the College Board, will be reimbursed for the cost of the Advanced Placement Exam, upon submitting a copy of the passing score record and a copy of the cancelled check or receipt proving payment. Students who take the Advanced Placement Exam will be exempt from completing a final exam in the course. Students who take the Advanced Placement Exam will have a weighted letter grade assigned to them.

For more information about the reimbursement process, please contact Dr. Trisha Craig, [email protected].
